“A pair of shoes can change your life. Just ask Cinderella.”

friends who make art

After I finished dressing the loom with a beige silk which will have the same threads as the weft and occasionally some variegated pink fuzzy yarn ... i am going to weave loose bands and then wave  them with a wide tooth comb... it's not that I know what I am doing but I am having a ball...I noticed that I have many pieces of art hanging on the walls made by friends of mine.

There is a the amazingly realistic- in fact so real that it becomes surreal- insect icon in oils done by Cathy- this hangs on the wall between the french dining room doors and the kitchen door to the deck, another bug photo - near the stairs to the upper level- by Arlene. an origami construction by a Barbara in Denver. A small bronze bird from a college friend Jill. metallic tassels and stars by another Katherine. a small glass bowl by Dot. a shamanistic turtle box by Irene. and a photo of the flatiron building from a sweet guy I met online and a stupendous lily by a mindsayer who is too shy to shout about his work. Then there is alot of my stuff which of course I am partial too. but I really like the idea that I have my friends' creativity scattered all over the house.

Did you ever go into a house that was done by an interior designer- one of those take your breath away but no- one really lives here where are the mementos of trips to the shore. Even if I could afford the services of a designer I would not spend my money that way as I like a home's interior to evolve and be a living story of the people who live and sleep within it. SO yes I'll have small bowl bought in Asheville in 1998 filled with sand and beach driftwood from that summer's trip to Jekyll Island. Or a clay pot found in Sedona filled with red sandstone shards from the hills outside Williams. Or a small glass bud vase from a little used glass store on the lower east side loaded with water worn stones from a beach I loved in my childhood. and I slide little pieces of paper with the dates and locations so ten years later I easily reflect on those moments in central park. or la playa Santa Maria or a trip to the Rio Grande River. all little bits of my life, the people I love and the places i have been.

Life sort is an art- if done well. Don’cha think?
