Yesterday was an almost completely decadent day except for the fact that I ate a few vegetables. It had snowed and seemed the perfect excuse for a fire in the wood stove, bundling in heavy sweaters, grabbing a down throw, opening another trashy thriller by David Baldacci ( this time I chose not to add to his coffers of cash and used the library) and setting in for a day of reading.
I got up to pee, get the mail, eat a meal of linguine with artichoke pesto and the most sinful bowl of coconut ice cream with fresh coconut, slivered almonds and chocolate sauce. This only made me need more wood on the fire. Abi tried to urge me into some activity by beginning to chew on the mail or sitting on my book but even she gave up when faced the enormous weight of my inertia and willingness to be as, Pinter put it, a slum slug. Now one wouldn’t want too many of these days as they would lead to great lethargy, atrophy of all major appendages except the fingers required to turn the page and lower jeans to piss but to do it for one day when the small patches of sunlight darting through the afternoon made the camellias leaves outside the front window into ice crystal jewels. Dare I try it twice in a row? No. I need to get an allergy shot, basalt to foil my neighbors’ evil parking habits and buy some food before I am reduced to pretzels and ginger ale for dinner. And yesterday Abi didn’t vomit up cat hair. Yes a good time was had by all.
